The Big Tasting is Back…
It’s back. Our legendary Big Tasting will return on Friday 15th September. With over 120 wines and Champagnes, craft beers and ciders, plus our famous cured meats and carpaccio, cheese and chocolates, this is an evening not to be missed. The Big tasting will be divvied into two sessions:
Big tasting session 1 6pm – 7.30pm.
Big tasting session 2 8pm – 9.30pm

For one night only we’ll bring them all together for an inspired tasting of the typical and not so typical members of this intriguing wine family.
South Africa – Thursday 7th September 2017 €55
After quietly simmering away, unnoticed by the rest of the world, the South African wine scene has exploded in the last couple of years, and they can justly lay claim to some of the most exciting and dynamic wineries and wine makers working today. Gone is a reliance on Pinotage and Cabernet blends, replaced with outstanding Syrah and Grenache, superlative Chenin and Chardonnay, and some unlikely blends to make the old guard quiver in their boots. It’s all happening down here. Don’t miss out.
Lesser known Spain – Thursday 19th October 2017 €50
Rioja has been a mainstay of Irish wine drinkers for years now, in fact, we are the 7th largest market for Rioja in the World! But Spain has so much to offer that it would be a shame to not look beyond the most famous regions and explore the less familiar, from volcanic island whites to supremely elegant reds, not to mention sparkling and fortified, the is an entire new Spain just waiting to be discovered.
Champagne & Sparkling wines – Thursday 16th November 2017 €50
Champagne is by some distance the benchmark for sparkling wines, but it is by no means out on its own. From England to Italy, Australia to Argentina there has been a surge in quality and variety of sparkling wines. With more of these wines available to us than ever before, there’s never been a better time to experiment and explore these fantastic wines.
4 Week wine courses @ely bar & brasserie 2017
Our four-week wine courses will commence again in August and October. The courses run on Tuesdays, and cover all aspects of wine knowledge including wine tasting, wine regions and grape varieties, wine production and food and wine matching. We’ll also discuss wine faults, how to navigate a wine list, spot a bargain and much more. Each evening of the course we will serve supper, a dish chosen from our menu to complement the wines we are tasting. Detailed notes will be provided each week, and homework -of the tasting kind- will be assigned!
Classes begin at 7pm.
