France – an introduction
29th January 2020
A look at some of the most famous wine regions in France, including Bordeaux, Burgundy, The Rhone and The Loire. With a focus on the grape varieties they grow and the style of wine they make in each, we’ll take the mystery out of buying and drinking French wines. An essential introduction to the most important wine producer in the world.
A tour of Italian Reds
5th February 2020
What makes Italy so fascinating as a wine growing country is that they focus almost exclusively on their indigenous varieties, grapes which are not grown anywhere else. What’s more, the varieties grown in Piedmont, or Tuscany or Sicily are not even grown anywhere else in Italy. This tasting is a vinous tour of Italy, looking at all the major red wine regions and the varieties grown in each.
Sparkling Wines & Champagne
12th February 2020
Sparkling wines are more popular than ever, and while the most famous of these – Champagne – needs little introduction, but there are many, many more worth seeking out. From Tasmania to California, South Africa to southern England, sparkling wines are produced the world over in a vast range of styles. The most important thing to remember is this- there is a sparkling wine for every occasion, and we will taste our way through a few of them here.
New World Icons
19th February 2020
The so-called “New World” countries -Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, USA etc- are occasionally dismissed as somehow inferior to the great wines of Old-World Europe. FAKE NEWS! A proper look at the wines currently produced in Australia, South Africa, NZ and beyond shows a level of innovation, dynamism and gusto often sorely lacking in the old countries. From eccentric blends to ground-breaking wine-making, this is where the excitement is.
