Some of our Favourite Dublin Dockland’s Weekend Activities

Dublin Docklands is a hive of activity from Monday to Friday with the hustle bustle of the corporate world. At weekends it becomes a laid back, off the beaten track destination with a slower pace and lots to see and do.

In this blog we share some of our favourite things to do in The Docklands on a Sunday afternoon. We hope you enjoy our local insider tips!

Step aboard the Jeanie Johnston

The original Jeanie Johnston made 16 emigrant journeys to North America between 1847 and 1855, carrying over 2,500 people. The ship now berthed at Custom House quay is an authentic replica, built in Tralee, Co. Kerry. It has sailed to North America and to various ports in Europe.

There is a 50 minute guided tour that will lead you through the historic Jeanie Johnston Tall Ship – Take in the detailed craftsmanship as you board the ship before journeying to the cabins where the tour guide leads you through the dimly-lit quarters to show what life was like for those passengers who made the transatlantic voyage to an uncertain future in the ‘New World’.

The Custom House Visitor Centre

This historic gem is so off the beaten track that many are not aware that you can take a tour of this magnificent building. which has been a Dublin landmark for over two hundred years. The tour outlines the history of the Custom House.  It describes events in the building during Easter Week 1916 and considers the history of the Custom House and its occupants from then until 1921, when the building was destroyed by fire during the War of Independence.

EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum

EPIC is an interactive experience located in the CHQ building, just on our doorstep in Dublin’s Docklands. In our view, one of the most fun and interactive things to do in the Docklands, EPIC will inspire and guide you on a journey to discover the stories of Irish emigration around the world, from early times to the modern day.

A visit to EPIC can be enhanced when followed by brunch or dinner at ELY and makes for a
really special weekend family day out where children can eat free at ELY BAR&GRILL.
To avail of your Little People eating free simply bring your Epic passport down to ELY and all under 8s eat free when dining with an adult!
